About Us

Over recent years Tyalgum has become an increasingly popular tourist destination for visitors of the Tweed. It’s stunning landscape and beautiful village charm have placed it on the map as a location not to be missed. It is easily accessible to those staying on the coast and at the end of a lovely leisurely drive for those visiting or living right through the region.

dscn1191Toward the end of 2004, we realised that the town was not adequately catering for this demand. The old coffee shop had been closed for 2 years and was sitting vacant, beckoning a new tenant.

We embraced the challenge of resurrecting this service and helping bring the town back to life. The shop was completely re-fitted and opened for business on Australia Day 2005. In addition to the café, a nursery was opened, as well as The Little Shop Next Door offering all manner of gifts and homewares.

The vision in creating Flutterbies was to provide a place that not only offers quality food and coffee, but that offers and entire experience. We wished to create a place where people could sit for hours in the exquisite surrounds and let the worries and stresses of the world slip away. Where they can feel a beauty and an attention to detail that is inspiring and utterly restorative. We want them to leave with a beaming smile on their face and to return with an entourage of family and friends, and to drive for hours if they need to, and we are proud to say….they do!

img_3248Flutterbies has also been actively involved in supporting the local community, we have participated in local festivals, as well as supporting charitable organizations and causes. In out first year, we donated $4000 for the Tyalgum Playgroup, Clip for Cancer fundraiser, local soccer clubs, The Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers, the Rural Firefighters, local ballet schools, and community events such as Tyalgum Diggers Day, and the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts. In addition, we have gifted countless gift hampers to be raffled as prizes at many functions and events.

Flutterbies strives to provide a high standard of service, the old-fashioned way. Providing service with a smile, and taking that extra step to care for the needs of our customers is an integral part of our business. We always use the best and freshest ingredients, and use as much local produce as possible to support the local economy. We offer fine country fare such as home-baked muffins, scones, country pot pies and crepes.

And people simply can’t go past our famous Flutterbie Cakes, a part of the experience not to be missed.
